The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially announced that the NEET PG 2025 exam will be held on June 15, 2025. Additionally, MBBS graduates must complete their internship by July 31, 2025, to be eligible for the exam.
Each year, approximately two lakh MBBS graduates compete in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) for admission to nearly 52,000 postgraduate medical seats across India.
NMC’s Strong Stance Against Ragging in Medical Colleges
In a parallel development, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has intensified its efforts to combat ragging in medical colleges nationwide. Following reports of a surge in ragging-related incidents, the NMC has issued stringent directives to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Medical colleges have been instructed to:
- Implement comprehensive anti-ragging mechanisms as per the Regulations, 2021.
- Constitute and activate Anti-Ragging Squads to monitor and address ragging incidents.
- Raise awareness among faculty, staff, and students about anti-ragging policies.
- Submit annual anti-ragging reports promptly.
- Create a safe, harassment-free learning environment for students.
These measures come in the wake of a tragic incident involving the death of an 18-year-old first-year MBBS student at GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Dharpur. This case, along with other reports of mental harassment and suicides linked to ragging, has brought increased scrutiny to the issue. The NMC, through its Anti-Ragging Cell and the UGC Helpline, has been actively monitoring and addressing such cases reported via media channels and social platforms.
A Call for Change
The NMC’s directives aim to foster a safe and inclusive academic atmosphere for medical students while ensuring that ragging, in any form, is eliminated from medical institutions across the country. Students and faculty members are urged to actively participate in creating a culture of mutual respect and support.
As aspiring doctors prepare for NEET PG 2025, these combined efforts by NBEMS and NMC underscore a commitment to both academic excellence and student welfare.
